This course is aimed at advocates working with people who might suffer discrimination in accessing goods and services. Legal aid is not available to people who want to challenge discrimination in accessing goods and services. This means that people have to represent themselves in the Workplace Relations Commission, sometimes with the assistance of advocates.

CLM has published an FAQ on The Employment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2018, which was signed into law on Christmas Day 2018 and came into force on 4th March 2019. The legislation aims to address the challenges caused by the increased casualisation of work and to strengthen the regulation of precarious employment, particularly zero hour contracts.
CLM’s Mediation Service provides free conflict coaching and mediation in areas such as parental disputes, family disputes, community disputes and workplace disputes. CLM’s mediation and conflict coaching services are delivered by a panel of committed volunteers. CLM operates a mediation service in North Dublin, Wicklow and Limerick.
This training course will examine the law relating to homelessness in Ireland – what is the State’s obligations to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
This course will look at Social housing support, the application process and the scheme of allocations. It will explain tenancy rights, evictions, what constitutes an unlawful eviction, and how can this be challenged.
CLM welcomed the opportunity to make a submission to the Courts Service in relation to the consultation process on its Digitally-Enabled Long-Term Strategy. CLM took the opportunity to recommend that the Service is fully accessible to persons with intellectual disabilities in vindication of their rights, particularly in view of the increased obligations introduced by the United Nations Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities which comes into force on 19th April 2019.

When conflict and difficult situations occur it is vital that they are managed in a professional way so that relationships do not break down. By developing the ability to obtain positive outcomes from conflict situations productivity can be maintained and need for mediation reduced.
This QQI accredited Level 6 course will give students a basic understanding of the Irish legal system and employment law in Ireland. Learners will develop an awareness of the main features of employment law and understand how legislation impacts on the employment relationship while becoming familiar with the legal language, procedures and documents relevant to the area of employment law. Learners will develop their advocacy skills and the ability to apply what they have learned to the workplace.
