How to use Casebase

We hope that Casebase will assist individuals or organisations considering making an appeal to the Social Welfare Appeals office by making available decisions on cases which may be similar to that of that particular individual or organisation.

General information on how to make an appeal is available on FLAC's guide, here.

How to Refine your Search

You can search by payment type e.g. jobseekers allowance, and/or year.

You can also refine your search by searching under keywords.  For instance if an NGO is thinking of challenging a decision regarding an overpayment, a search can be conducted under the keyword "overpayment" which will gather all the cases relating to overpayments on the database. Other keyword searches would include searching all decisions in  relation to the “habitual residence” or the “right to reside” test.

You can now search by using one or all of the following:

  1. By category/payment type e.g. Carer's Allowance, Disability Allowance etc.
  2. Refine by Year or select All Years
  3. Refine by the following Keywords.  Please ensure that spelling and spacing are correct and abbreviations are not used.
  • ‚Äč“habitual residence condition”,
  • "section 317",
  • "section 318",
  • "medical",
  • "oral hearing",
  • "means",
  • "fair procedures",
  • "Zambrano",
  • "right to reside",
  • "reasons",
  • "overpayment".
